A few weeks ago I mentioned I went by my friend Andrea's house for a makeup lesson for her.

She was interested in creating a new look in under 15 minutes that would take her from day to night.

She's a lover of all things fashion and beauty but also a busy mom of 2 (#3 is on the way) and wanted to ramp up her usual makeup to something a bit more modern 

(she says she's been wearing the same eyeshadow for years) 

My goal was to give her some fun tips and tricks to apply to her everyday look while showing her a few options to take her makeup up a notch and also go from picking up the kids to date night with her husband.

I compiled a list of my top 5 makeup tips and explained each one to her in detail as well as showed her a few fun things she could add to her repertoire when she felt she needed a pick me up.

The Happenings

Things have been a bit crazy around here the last few days.

I've been busy prepping for my god-sister's weddings that will be taking place next week!

(really??? next week!? Eeek!!)

So I've been busy organizing and stocking up on all the new goodies I will need to take with me on my trip

(more on packing for a cross country makeup job later)

And yesterday I had a lovely morning makeup lesson with my friend Andrea

On top of all that I'm working on the website, scouring the Internet for logo ideas and generally working on housekeeping details for the business side of Sweet Emotions.

With the new baby it's been a bit of a challenge to manage it all but I love it.

I have to say I was quite excited to work with Andrea yesterday. 

She has great energy, wonderful skin and really pretty hazel-y green eyes and I couldn't wait to jazz them up!

However I am lame and did not take any pics of my own.

But who doesn't love to talk about makeup application????
I know I do!

Learning Curve

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending a M.A.C Pro workshop for Bridal Makeup at the M.A.C Pro store with the fabulous Keri Blair.

As an artist, I am always looking for new techniques and pride myself on learning as I go.

Makeup is an ever-changing art form and there is always something new to learn so I love to attend different types of classes and see what I can see!

Keri is a M.A.C senior artist and absolutely A-MAZING.

I've never met her before but her energy and demeanor inspired me a great deal.

She answered all of our questions regarding the wedding makeup business and then did a brief demo.

One of my favorite things (aside from her fabulous personality) was that she did not stick to having a simple and muted palette for the "bride".

She smoked her eyes out big time but in a non-i'm-going-out-partying-tonight kind of way.

Quite ethereal really - sadly I didnt get a pic on my phone but if you have a chance ; go check out her site see some of her amazing work!

As a M.A.C Pro Student member I have the opportunity to take Master Classes that they offer and learn new techniques, be exposed to new products and shop my heart out!

My kind of day.

What's new Love Bug?

It's been awhile since I've posted but fear not!

I have plenty of news!

In the last weeks things have really been buzzing over here at Sweet Emotions.

Awhile back I mentioned I was taking a makeup certification course at Mt.SAC and I finished that about mid December.

With that class came the opportunity to apply for a M.A.C student Pro Card , the Pro Card enables me as a student working artist to access certain kits and products not available to the general public at a discounted rate.

And who doesn't love a deal on makeup!!

So about a week and a half ago I ordered my Student Pro Kit and it came about 6 days later.

When the box arrived at "the job" the women were all a-flutter as that much makeup in one box was just mesmerizing!!

I took it with me to the hair salon last week
(I had to share w/ my good friend/hair stylist and  who doesn't take all of their makeup to the salon????)

and ended up doing an impromptu makeup application on another customer who was going out that evening!

I also 'officially' launched Sweet Emotions Makeup Artistry as a business now that I've finally admitted that my love of creating beautiful makeup and magical moments with and for all types of women is where my passion lies.

All about Eyes

It's been a busy week but I don't have class this Sunday so now I can finally catch up on here and re-cap some of what we've gone over.

This past week was All about Eyes - a favorite focal point of mine.

Because eyes are the windows to the soul right?

And we all want to be seen as having  beautiful eyes.

Even if they are normally a mud brown color.
There are 6 general eye shapes and a plethora of combinations which are distinct to each client.
They are:

• Almond Eyes - the most common shape
• Deep Set - no lid shows
• Protruding -lots of lid shows
• Wide set - large space between
• Close set - limited space between
• Droopy -  minimal lid, shape goes lower at outer corners

I had the pleasure of working on a lovely model whose eyes were almond shaped.

but upon closer inspection it was discovered they were also protruding as there was a lot of lid and a little bit droopy as the corners turned down a bit.

I started by prepping the eye area witht a little custom blended concealer and  a primer from Smashbox.

Then I filled in her brows ever so slightly with a darker grey/brown (Urban Decay) and highlighted the brow brown (Anastasia).

I then covered the entire lid with a light beige-y shade ( Shroom by M.A.C) concentrating on the inner corners.

Then I created a light > shape on the outer corner to give her some definition and followed that along the crease ever so lightly.

I repeated the same shape on the inner corners but much lighter and not as close to the nose.

I then lined her upper lid w/ a dark grey brown (Red Ginger Palette) and repeated the same liner under neath close to the water line, she curled her lashes and I topped with two coats of mascara and wah-la!

she's a superstar!!

I'm always looking to improve my skills and learn new techniques and am having so much fun doing it!

Today was Fantasy Day in honor of Halloween!

My partner Corina and I took turns tricking out each other's faces.

This girl has wicked talent!!

 I wanted to do more 'mystical & mythical' type fantasy so I kept it simple with some feathers,

gems and plenty of colors!!
